2.1.10

Thanks again to all of you who came out and supported my work at the Art on the Ridge Gallery. Also, thanks so much to Nicole Stremlow-Monahan (Owner and Curator at Art on the Ridge). I will hopefully have some new work showing here in a few months or so. As for now, I am spending some time developing my Photomanipulations. If you haven't already, check out the photo gallery for some of the new photo composites: "The Rescue" and "Flight of the Ravens"!

1.11.09

I have spent the last couple weeks working on a number of design projects! Please see my design services website to view new work:

http://www.AlysonJonesStudios.com

New work from today should be added shortly! Brainstorming for a new triptych painting. Thanks to all who visited the Art on the Ridge Gallery for any of the shows the last three months. Unfortunately, due to conflicting events, I was unable to make it to the December and January opening shows. If anyone went and has any comments, I would love to hear!

1.9.09

I've been asked to be one of a number of Washington artists for a book about the stories and struggles of working in the arts! More later.

12.30.09

Wow, my last post was December 1st! It has been a very busy month! Canvas painting has been put on hold for a bit, as ornament and earring painting took off during the busy shopping month. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the new Creative Crafts gallery. I like to dabble in all kinds of painting surfaces and am loving the holiday and wearable crafts that I started working on in my leisure time! Anything can be commissioned or customized. Pre-order ornaments all year long!

12.1.09

Happy Holidays! It's now December! Also this month, my paintings will be remaining up in the Art on the Ridge Gallery through the end of December. There will be another opening ceremony so if you missed the last one in November, now is your chance! More details to come!

11.30.09

It's my favorite time of year, the holidays! To celebrate, I have added the "Creative Crafts" gallery to my website. Here, you can view and purchase additional artsy crafts that I work on in my spare time. Have an idea you would like to see turned into one of my crafts? Commission your own! Just contact me!

11.17.09

Thanks to all who came out last Friday for the opening show at the Art on the Ridge Gallery! It was a great time with a diverse selection of artwork. Gallery artwork will remain up through the end of November. Photos up soon!

Thank you all for your comments about the newest work, "Into the Deep". I'm hoping to do a number of upcoming pieces that are similar to this work!

10.1.09

As you can see, I've added a photo gallery to the blog. This will allow blog followers to keep up on gallery showings, festivals, etc. Right now, I only have shots from the most recent show. I will try to get others up as soon as I can. Thank you for following! Also, this Friday, October 2nd, is the closing for the Kirkland Blaubak Gallery portrait show. The open gallery runs from 6 - 9 pm with wine and snacks. Hope to see you there!

9.25.09

The newest painting for the Phantasmagoria series is finished! Photos should be up shortly. This work is for sale; please contact me with any questions or interest in buying!

9.15.09

Thank you to all who came out for the show opening last Friday (Sept. 11). The paintings will be up through the beginning of October with a closing show on Oct. 2nd! Come if you missed the first!

9.8.09

"Fleeting Ink", "Dance of the Water Woman", and "Returning the Hat", will be showing at the Blaubak Gallery in Kirkland, WA., this Friday Sept. 11, and Friday Oct. 2. Prices have been slightly lowered for this show - SALE!

9.4.09

Hey guys, I will be showing three of my most recent paintings at the Blaubak Gallery in Kirkland, WA., on September 11th and October 2nd from 6 - 9 pm!

I've had to put down the most recent painting for a bit. I've begun design work for a very fashionably chic clothing boutique in downtown Seattle, Totokaelo. I'm hoping to sneak in a few hours on the painting soon.

8.20.09

This past Friday I finally started a new painting. I haven't been painting for awhile, as I have been doing a number of design projects and photo work. This upcoming piece is also part of the "Phantasmagoria" series. Unlike many of my previous works, this painting features animals! I am very excited for this new subject and hope this work will be done by the end of next week.

8.5.09

4.23.09

"Dance of the Water Woman" is almost done. Just need to finish with some touch ups. Look for photos up soon.

4.22.09

Working on a really interesting piece right now. This is the next work in the "Phantasmagoria" series. Quite psychedelic, yet elegant. I'm really enjoying the creativity this work has to offer. The work is going to be titled "Dance of the Water Woman". Check back shortly for updates!

4.14.09

Beginning the next work in the "Phantasmagoria" series this week. Developing the idea and am so far very pleased by the fantastical elements of this upcoming work. Look for updates soon.

4.10.09

Still working on the latest from the Phantasmagoria series. I have been struggling with one small detail in this work, but I think I'm beginning to make progress! Should be finished today or monday...

4.7.09

Working on an awesome subject right now. Really enjoying the piece. Should be done near the end of this week sometime, look for photos soon!

4.2.09

Working on the third work in the "Phantasmagoria" series. The subject in this work is very dear to me; the painting responds to one of my favorite children's books. More details later once the work is finished. As for now, trees, trees, trees!

3.27.09

Haven't written for a bit... I got distracted while working on the newest finished work, "The Tub". I've had a lot of questions about this painting: why? where? who?

I don't think I can, nor should, answer these questions. This work is about imagination and the interpretation is up to the viewer. I wanted this piece to capture the strange, mystifying experience during a dream.

I have recently added a new gallery to my site. "Miniatures" are tiny 5" x 7" canvas paintings that I work on when taking a break from larger works. These small works are usually quick (4 or 5 hours) projects that enable me to experiment with different techniques and imagery. The canvases are extremely thin, only 1/8 of an inch, and are perfect for home framing. View the Miniature Gallery here.

3.13.09

Photos of the newest work, "Fleeting Ink" are up! Check them out in the Acrylics Gallery!

3.11.09

Sorry for the long delay...been busy with the most current work, "Fleeting Ink". Hoping to have it finished sometime later this week. I am working from a photo-composite I created from several combined photographs. It received a ton of attention after posting the photo-composite on several photograph and public art websites so I am very excited to reveal the painted work.

3.5.09

Had the opportunity to unveil "Cloaked in Cotton Loops" yesterday for a surprise birthday present from the painting commissioner! I was very pleased with the positive reviews. A happy birthday to the new owner of "Cloaked in Cotton Loops" and thanks to everyone for supporting my work!

I am currently working on "Fleeting Ink", a work in the upcoming series "Phantasmagoria: Challenging the Real". I'm really excited about this work for it's simplicity and creativity. Check back soon!

3.3.09

Resuming work on my first painting for the series "Phantasmagoria: Challenging the Real" (originally titled Real Meets Surreal).

3.2.09

Photos are up of my most recently finished commission work, "Cloaked in Cotton Loops"! Please contact me with any comments!

2.27.09

Really like this work so far; something completely different than any other portrait work I have done. The close up view offers so much depth and detail!

2.25.09

Making great progress. I absolutely love painting eyes and in this work the eyes are each about 8 inches across. Adding the lashes and reflections really makes them pop. The hair is quite dramatic. Tendrils sweeping across the face. Love the freedom I have with the locks.

2.23.09

"Finding Home" did find its home; it was presented to the mother as a gift from the commissioner. So glad to hear she loved the work! Congratulations to the new mother and son!

Also...prints of both "Garden Child" and "Finding Home" are now available. Click on the links next to the paintings to purchase all sizes of prints and greeting cards! Awesome gifts and a great/affordable way to support my art.

2.18.09

The current painting I am working on is quite difficult. It's a very, close head shot of a young girl. The skin tones are giving me some trouble. I had a bit of water on my brush this morning and struggled with getting my acrylics to stay on the canvas. Things are much better now. I switched brushes. Larger brushes can be a bit scary but are amazing blending tools when just the right paint is applied. Making progress.

2.17.09

Just had my acrylic painting, "Marley", published on NowPublic.com! The article is a tribute to Bob Marley and discusses the copyright actions soon to be taken by his management and family. "Marley" is one in a number of chosen photographs and art, but thanks so much to NowPublic.com for their interest in my work. Read the article here!

Photography is not really my thing, but I love taking shots between painting sessions. Check out some new photos.

2.13.09

Continued on the previous commission I was working on. It's an extremely close image of a young girl. I really like the photo, but the shading is difficult! Large areas to shade are always much harder than smaller ones. It's definitely showing here. I need a break. I work for a few more hours and get the shading almost done on one side of the face. Whew.

2.12.09

Photos are up! If you haven't already, please redirect to the Acrylics Gallery to view my most recently completed painting commission! It was really a wonderful photo to work from. Great contrasts in skin tones and fabric. Please contact me if you have any thoughts about the work! Yay!

2.11.09

Details today and canvas edges. It's beautiful outsite...perfect lighting on the canvas. The edges are a bit difficult with the shadows. Almost finished! Pictures up soon!

2.10.09

Today was all stripes. All stripes. Red, white, red, white. I finished one subject's shirt; it took much longer than expected. Only one more clothing item and then I am finished with the bulk of this newest piece. I love the colors, they're vibrant and entertaining! Details next... and finish canvas edges...! Signature. And done. More in a bit...

Finished the main body of the image. Very pleased!

2.9.09

Almost done... been working on newest commission for almost two weeks. I love the photo I am working from; great colors and great composition. Had to revise the cluttered background a bit... Very happy with the progress made today! Should be finished in a few days.
